Exported poses are wrong in FaceFX Studio

Hi,

I'm setting up and exporting an actor and a mesh file from Maya. Once this the actor is opened in Studio, the bone poses that contain scaling are wrong.

There is definitely scaling in there, but a lot of the poses look a little weird. For example "Pupil Dilation" scales in 2 axis in Maya, but only on one when driven in Studio.

Is this a known issue?

I'm using FaceFX 2012.1 Unlimited, Maya 2011 with Ogre Export.

Cheers,
Sune

FaceFX 2013.2 fixed a scale issue that occurred in studio only. Can you reproduce with the latest no-save eval?

Also, pupil dilation is one of slade's poses, but you are setting up a new character. Are you using slade's skeleton? Pupil dilation is not a required pose. We use it internally to test scale more than anything.

Thanks Doug,

I'm using one of our own characters, that has an existing pose set based on FACS. For this test I'm just bringing these into FaceFX and using combiner nodes to create the poses FaceFX needs.

I'll give the trial a go and let you know how I fare.

Cheers,
Sune

The other thing to watch out for is non-uniform scale. Ogre and Maya may (and probably do) treat that differently, and there isn't much FaceFX can do about it. Pupil Dilation should work however, because it impacts all 3 axis simultaneously.

Right, actually I use mainly non-uniform scale, incl. in the pupil dilation pose. Sorry, I should have made that clear in the original post.

I didn't have a chance to try out the Ogre pipeline in the newer version as suggested yet, but I'm assuming that moving to the FBX pipeline would sort me out?

Tough to tell without looking at your content. If it doesn't work with the FBX pipeline in 2013.2, please send us your content. I can't promise that Studio will look the same as Maya if you are animating with non-uniform scale, but it should at least be correctly passing the values along to Unity. Make sure that exporting an FBX file from Maya directly into Unity works as you expect too (it's possible you will run into surprises there too)
